FADTalents explored the iconic global embroidery house Milaaya through an immersive industry visit.
As part of FAD’s experiential learning approach, UG Fashion Design and PG students recently visited Milaaya Embroideries, gaining firsthand exposure to the craftsmanship and innovation behind one of the world’s leading embroidery houses.
Founded in 2000 and headquartered in Mumbai, Milaaya Embroideries has established itself as a global leader in luxury embroidery, collaborating with international fashion and lifestyle brands. Known for merging traditional handcraft with modern techniques, the house delivers intricate embroidery solutions tailored to global design requirements.
During the visit, students observed how creative concepts evolve into finely executed embroidered surfaces through stages of material exploration, sampling, design development and production workflows. The experience offered valuable insight into the technical precision and quality standards required to operate within the global fashion supply chain.
A key highlight of the visit was an interaction with founder Gayatri Khanna, who shared her entrepreneurial journey, creative philosophy and perspective on the evolving role of craftsmanship in contemporary fashion.
Students also explored Milaaya’s extensive archive of over 60,000 embroidery swatches, showcasing a wide spectrum of techniques, textures and experimental developments that inform the house’s design processing from conceptualization and sampling to large scale production for global clients, students gain valuable insights into the synergy between creativity, business strategy and technical precision. These experiences reinforce FAD’s vision to bridge academia and industry, ensuring students graduate with not only theoretical knowledge but also with practical exposure essential to thrive in today’s global fashion landscape.
